Four people have written Mzuzu Sanaa Supermarket-Katoto Shop demanding K50 million compensation in damages for allegedly selling them three kilogrammes of rotten packed chicken portions on November 30 2022.

The chicken portions were bought at K5 985.

The four, Kondwani Cement, Mabvuto Bilima, Khumbo Mithi and Clement Gwayi have sued Sana Supermarket for food poisoning through their lawyer Chipiliro Mwale.

In a written claim The Nation has seen, the four noted that the chicken pieces were green when consuming them.

“As a result, our clients suffered serious personal injuries, including nervous shock,” reads the claim.

The four argue that the supermarket was negligent in selling chicken portions which they knew had dangerous substances and would cause damage and injury upon consumption.

The claim further argues that the four suffered from general body pains, nausea, vomiting, headaches, dizziness and diarrhoea after consuming the chicken pieces.

“Our clients are drivers and businesspeople. Since the day they consumed the food from your shop, our clients have suffered repeated diarrhoea such that they are unable to conduct their day to day business,” it reads.

According to the claim, Sanaa Supermarket admitted their mistake when they offered the four five kilogrammes of newly refrigerated chicken portion.

But Sanaa Mzuzu manager Abdul Jabbar said they try hard to serve customers.

He said: “We wish to share a loud message that such threats will not weaken our resolve to serve the masses as this is not only a business for us, rather a means for serving the economy of Malawi as we are a source of earning for so many households through direct or indirect employment.

“We also wish to mention that we stand committed to best trade practices, better customer care and have firm belief in our courts and laws.”
